Qualifications
Dedicated Teacher
As a teacher with years of experience spanning early childhood education, elementary, high school, and higher education as a professor at our community college, I bring a comprehensive understanding of the educational journey and the unique needs and challenges at each stage of learning. I also offer a wealth of knowledge in curriculum, standards, and best practices. Most importantly, I provide first-hand, in-class experience and connection with our students, teachers, staff, and families that allow me to better understand their current needs and concerns.
Devoted Parent
As a parent of young children here in our local public schools, I'm committed and personally invested in the success and well-being of our students and schools. As a classroom volunteer, I understand the vital role parents play in their children’s education and have seen the dedication of our amazing teachers to provide the highest quality education. My kids are also very involved in many city parks and rec programs, school teams, and local sports programs.
Committed Volunteer
My commitment to community extends beyond the classroom. I have a lifetime of service, from packing and delivering produce to families in need to installing solar panels and organizing trash cleanups in developing countries. I have also served on professional committees and executive boards of many organizations and nonprofits.
Education & Certifications
As an adopted orphan, I felt called to advocate for and work to protect vulnerable children. I received my Bachelor's in International Studies and a Master's degree in International Affairs with specialties in economic development and nonprofit management from UCSD's school of Global Policy and Strategy. I worked on policies that support HIV/AIDS orphans with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and have volunteered and taught in schools and orphanages across the world. All this led me to understand that change begins in the classroom so I earned two teaching credentials in English and Social Science.
